Employment Opportunity at Goose Pond Farm
Goose Pond Farm raises drug and chemical-free (organic) chickens. We specialize in providing our customers with the cleanest and freshest chicken possible. To achieve this, we process our chickens ourselves and sell them directly to the consumer at the farm. The farm is located 4 miles west of Hartselle, Alabama. The farm has been in operation for over 25 years.
We are an ex-homeschool family as all our children have graduated and out on their own.
Employment Opportunity:
The employment opportunity is for processing. “Processing” is where we take live birds from the field, kill them, pluck the feathers, wash, clean, and prepare them to be sold to our customers. Processing is done on our farm. We do this one weekend each month, April through October.
For the past 25 years, we have offered an opportunity for adults and/or their older children who wanted a part-time job to help us process and sell our chickens.
For the adults, this is a great opportunity to earn some part-time money with only a one-weekend commitment each month for only 7 months (April thru October). For those adults who would like to do this with their older children, this is a great opportunity to have a family work experience.
For older children, this is a valuable work experience that will help them as they get older. It will help teach them the importance of earning and managing money, the importance of commitment, and the importance of teamwork. (Whether the child works with his or her parent or not, we prefer young adults 16 or older. Our crew consists of both girls and boys.
Processing is hard work – character-building hard work! It involves long hours and strenuous physical labor. It is not for everyone. This work involves a high degree of learned skills that will require a lot of our time to teach. Therefore, if we are going to commit our time to teach these skills, we must have workers who are committed to stay throughout the entire season.
We generally process near the end of each month. The actual dates have yet to be determined.
Pay for adults starts at $13 per hour. For young adults, pay will be determined by their maturity level after an interview. Pay will be adjusted based on the individual’s ability to master the needed skills, the ability to work as a team member, dedication to the task at hand, and their commitment to monthly attendance.
